Scoring Pretty Babies: A New Film, A New Sound World

I’m excited to share that I’m currently working on the original score for Pretty Babies, an upcoming feature film directed by Tyler-Marie Evans and starring Ashley Benson and Emily Alyn Lind.
Recently announced in Variety, Pretty Babies follows two teenage girls who run away to Hollywood in pursuit of fame, only to find themselves pulled into a much darker reality beneath the surface of the industry.
A Story About the Cost of the Dream
At its core, Pretty Babies is not just a coming-of-age story; it’s a film about the tension between aspiration and reality.
Set against the backdrop of Hollywood, the film explores what happens when the dream of success collides with the systems and pressures that exist beneath it. What begins as a pursuit of freedom and identity gradually transforms into something far more complex and unsettling.
That emotional trajectory has been central to how I’ve approached the score.
Finding the Sound
From a musical perspective, the challenge has been to reflect both sides of that duality:
- The allure of Hollywood
- The fragility of youth
- The tension of descent into darker territory
The score leans into a palette that balances intimacy with unease, drawing from ambient textures, analog synthesis, and restrained melodic ideas that evolve as the story unfolds.
Rather than announcing emotion, the goal is to let the music sit just beneath the surface, shaping how the audience feels the story rather than telling them what to feel.
Why This Film Matters to Me
Projects like this are exactly why I love film scoring. There’s an opportunity to build a sonic identity that lives alongside the characters, something that grows with them, fractures with them, and ultimately helps define the emotional memory of the film.
Pretty Babies is a story with a strong point of view, and that makes it an incredibly compelling canvas for music.
More to Come
As the film continues production, I’ll be sharing more about the scoring process, including some of the creative decisions and techniques behind the music.
For now, I’m deeply immersed in the world of Pretty Babies, and I’m excited to help bring its emotional landscape to life.
